Dining at Daikokuya is more than a gastronomic journey – it is one of community. For me, I enjoy the whole experience – from taking the bus from campus to the long waits in line and to finally indulging in the warm glory of the ramen in the small packed restaurant. It is that feeling of being there with everyone else, as individuals of this big city, collectively coming together through the cultural experience. Even though we are all strangers, our mutual expressions of satisfaction connect us together on a level that transcends social interactions. It is at Daikokuya that I feel a sense of community within this giant city of strangers – that we could be together, within the confines of a tiny restaurant, and enjoy a few moments of pure, undisrupted, bliss.
